Consul’s speech to CCBS Conference

By |March 21st, 2016|

2016 Annual Conference of the Centre for Cross Border Studies

In June last year, after the Westminster election and the new Conservative Government’s public commitment to honour their manifesto pledge to proceed with the promised referendum on EU membership, the Centre for Cross Border Studies decided that the referendum would be a priority area of work for 2015-2016. The Centre recognised that not only would a referendum result that takes the UK out of the EU have enormous consequences for everyone living on this island, but that the negotiations that precede the Referendum would in themselves have serious consequences in many ways that are as yet not entirely predictable.
During the 2016 Annual Conference the Centre brought together experts, cross-border practitioners, and policy-makers over these two days to gave time and space to some of the most important issues linked to the referendum that had so far been identified. Jerome Mullen took part in CCBS Brexit Conference entitled BORDERING BETWEEN UNIONS: What does the UK Referendum on Europe mean for us? Consul spoke about possible effects of Brexit on Polish migrant community who are  the largest minority community in both parts of Ireland.
